FEATURED POEM
THE BUS RIDE
By Kenvil Atkins
All on board the driver yelled
Destination her house in a minivan
Surprising Desmond was quite a man
The van broke down time after time
Passengers cheered so much fun on the run
1
I met her one bright and sunny day
Goodness she had quite a lot to say
Sitting at the table in May
I happen to drop by that day
On her face was an expression of grief
2
Her uncle just taken returned from leave
Her trip from the country she couldn't believe
Word after word yes she retrieves
Making him know he should have called
Which in this case drove her up the wall
3
The music was playing her uncle was saying
As she sat upon the bed praying
I did not have time to make the call and all
You are here my dear so let's just have a ball
This here is my neighbor Ken across the hall
4
Her cheeks were rosy bright sparkling eyes
I envision myself stealing a kiss
But much too scared I would only get her fist
I venture for the kiss good God she did not resist
My body tremble my eyes glowed with sheer bliss
5
She captured my heart the age between us I miss
Dear Therese would you go with me to the fair
Pick you up at ten so please be there
Sleep would not come wishing the day had begun
Just seeing her again for me would be so fun
6
My mysterious gal went awhile just my downfall
Her frail body lying on the bed
She lay so calm cared being by a nurse named Ted
Daily I visit this gal determining that she will be mine
Three months of living and grieving and sunshine
7
Yes it is all on board the driver yelled
The destination was her house in a minivan
Surprising Desmond was quite a man
His old van broke down time after time
Passengers cheered so much fun on the run
8
One year later it seems a lifetime ago
Two hearts were joined life trial had begun
Fifty years later we had so much fun
Building our castle there is much to be done
For twilight is upon us now soon to be gone
